    On THURSDAY, JULY 24, 2014—the Cash Mob will meet at 4:00 p.m. at the Morrison Chamber of Commerce, 221 W. Main Street, where the Mob will find out the business that will be MOBBED! What is a Cash Mob? A Cash Mob is a flash mob, but instead of singing and dancing, we spend money as a group! We target the small, local businesses that make our community special in order to give the business owners an economic stimulus.     It doesn’t seem like it’s been eight months since I took office, so it’s past time that I provide some updates as to what your City has been up to.     Celebrating “A Star Spangled Christmas,” the Morrison Chamber of Commerce’s 26th Annual Christmas Walk will be held December 6th and 7th. The event includes many activities for the whole family beginning with Resthave Auxiliary’s Annual Coffee Hour & Bake Sale from 9 – 10:30 a.m., December 6, 2013. Friday evening’s fun includes an open house at Morrison’s Heritage Museum from 6-8 p.m., Brethren in Christ’s live nativity from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., and the tree lighting ceremony by Mayor Everett Pannier at 7:00 p.m. Many businesses will have open houses on Friday and the ever popular Christmas Cocktail Concoction kicks off on Friday from 5 p.m. until midnight, and again on Saturday evening.     • This Saturday, July 26 visitors to the Morrison Farmers Market are in for a special treat. The Ukulele Connection will be providing their unique sound with a free concert from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. The group is made up of local musicians Aaron Johnson playing U-Bass, Jim Roeder playing tenor and banjo ukulele, and Paul Engwall playing tenor ukulele. They play a blend of musical styles including standards, popular, bluegrass, and gospel songs. Bass, tenor, and banjo ukuleles along with a tuba, guitar, mandolin and harmonica provide the background for the three part vocals. The group will be back entertaining at the market again on August 9.

      This week’s featured vendor is Wendy Dobesh, who offers seasonal produce along with some sewn artisan items and wooden clay pot hangers. The University of Illinois Master Gardeners will also be at the market providing information for those interested in the program and highlights of projects that the group has completed.
